GRWM: Bouncy Curls and Light/Bright Makeup

Helloo, so this past weekend I celebrated m aunt’s 50th and one of my friend’s 21st birthdays. There was plenty of alcohol and FOOD (diet was momentarily on pause). So anyway, I really liked my hair/makeup that I wore to my friend’s 21st birthday party so I thought I’d show you and do a little run through of what I used etc πŸ™‚

Here it is! So I went for kinda of voluminous curls and light shades around my eyes with winged eyeliner (it’s my fave!)

Hair

So I used my Babyliss Pro (type F40b) Curling Wand CLICK HEREΒ (it looks like it’s on sale at the moment too so would be a good time to buy!). Not going to lie, this is the only curling wand I own, I’m a student so I can’t afford everything I’d like but I think it’s a pretty good one. When I first used it (yeearss ago) back when the curling wand trend was just starting and I had been used to the ones you clip your hair into and roll up, I wasn’t such a big fan of it. Now, having used it for years and also having had a bad experience with the old kind of curlers, I love it!

So I sprayed my hair with a bit of Tresemme Protect Heat Defence Styling Spray and began to curl AWAY from my face. My tip is to always curl away from your face, I think it looks miles better and frames your face better. I generally take quite large chunks of hair when I’m curling it this way, that’s how to get the larger ringlets when you’re done. I don’t really measure the amount of hair I take but I’d say only about ten pieces overall (obviously this varies from hair type to hair type).

The piece of hair right at the front on my right side (the side my parting sweeps to) I take a smaller section and curl it backwards on the top of my head and hold it for a few seconds only. I wrap my hair around the wand right to the top but it falls slightly to where it’s sitting in the picture. Afterwards just a spritz of hairspray and I tend to run my hands through it to make it less organised as well!

Makeup

I decided, because it was a summer evening and I was wearing a long maxi skirt, to go for a bright kind of dewy makeup look. I started by applying my NARS sheer glow foundation in Mont Blanc (of course) (CLICK HERE)Β and blended it out. I love the coverage this foundation gives me without looking cakey, it’s for sure a holy grail item for me! I then applied some of my Collection Lasting Perfection concealer (CLICK HERE) under my eyes and on a few spots I’ve had on my forehead recently (sigh). I then applied a light dusting of my Rimmel Stay Matte Powder in Translucent (CLICK HERE) I’m sure you’ve Β all heard loads about this powder before but it’s great and I don’t see a reason to pay out for a high end brand when this powder does the job just fine for me πŸ™‚

On my eyes I decided to get out my old MAC palette. I used Charcoal Brown in my crease just to give it a little bit of definition without it being a dramatic look at all, and then I applied Naked Lunch across my lid. I used a little bit of Nylon in my inner corners (it’s quite an intense shimmer so I was light handed with it). For me I really wanted to use light shades, and I’ve been loving doing that recently because I find that it opens up my eyes and enhances them better than when I apply heavy, dark shades. I then applied a thin line of liquid eyeliner on my lid as I love the elongating effect of a wing on me! Here’s a picture that better shows my eye makeup (even if it is a bit cringe).

Winged eyeliner natural makeup

Obviously it’s not perfect, I’m not a pro or anything, but I quite liked the final result. On my eyebrows I filled them in with MAC Omega eyeshadow first and then used a little bit of my Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade in Taupe (CLICK HERE) to sharpen up the ends.

I bronzed my face a tiny bit (not that you can see it!) with NARS Laguna Bronzer (CLICK HERE), another product I absolutely LOVE from Nars and then used my Sleek Solstice Highlighting palette which I’ve spoken about quite a few times on this blog now! In the above picture I hadn’t applied anything to my lips yet, but i did decide to go for MAC Velvet Teddy, which I think is meant to be a kind of browny nude but because I’m so pale it comes up quite dark on me!

Here’s another picture of the final look (feat a glorious glass of prosecco).

I hope you enjoyed reading this and maybe found it interesting if you’re looking for hair/makeup inspiration for something this summer πŸ™‚ I felt pretty confident with this look and it didn’t feel like too much or too little.

Job Interview Makeup

So today I’m bored at work, currently sat in the mailroom waiting for about a MILLION things to print off. So I thought I’d do a work themed post. I was recently at a couple of job interviews trying to find a summer placement, so I thought I’d just quickly explain what I put on my face those days πŸ™‚

So this is what it looked like. It was pretty subtle because, after all, it was an interview.

I started with my FAVOURITE foundation Nars Sheer Glow and applied that to my face, followed by a touch of Rommel Wake Me Up concealer under my eyes and on a couple of blemishes. After that I set everything in place with my Rommel Stay Matte powder in translucent.
I used Mac Omega eyeshadow on my eyebrows (it’s a matte and a very good shade for my brows) followed by some of my Anastasia Pomade in Taupe just on the ends for some definition. Getting the brows right is always going to be a work in progress though!

On my eyes I used Woodwinked by Mac and blended it out. I genuinely think this eyeshadow can look gorgeous by itself as when you blend it out it goes a smoky orange toned shade. A thin line of my Bourjois Pinceau liner across my lid but no wing (I’ll be honest I just didn’t have time!) and then a lick of Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara (but not too much as it can get quite dramatic!).

I kept it very simple on my face and applied the lightest little bit of hoola bronzer just to define my face a touch and then I used my Mac Soft and Gentle Mineralize Skin Finish, it’s the perfect amount of subtle while still being a gorgeous highlight!

On my lips I used my trusty Mac Velvet Teddy lipstick, no liner for a more natural look. It always does the trick!

So there you go that’s just a quick run down of what I wore to my job interviews! Hope you like it πŸ™‚

Oh and here are some other pictures of it that I found, slightly less flattering!

Until next time,

Spring Highlighters

Hey! Sorry I’ve taken a bit of a break from blogging just because I was finishing up with exams and then after that I’ve basically been sleeping and/or seeing my friends and actually having some fun! The weather has, surprisingly, been really quite nice up here the past few weeks though and it’s got me in the mood to wear my makeup a little differently. One of my absolute favourite makeup items is highlighter, so I thought I’d review a couple of the ones I own today.

The first real highlighter I ever bought was:

MAC Mineralize Skin Finish in Soft and Gentle Β£24.50 (Link here!)

I absolutely love this product because it has a natural, peachy, pearly shimmer and catches the light very nicely without being too intense (although is that really a thing?)

mac soft and gentle highlight

This is what it looks like on (apologies for the messy bed spread). Also, side note, it’s really hard to get highlight to show up in a picture without piling it on! This was the best one I could get but as you can see it gives you quite a nice glow πŸ™‚

My most recent “purchase” (I ordered it and it never showed up so I got a refund and then it magically came through my door, don’t tell!) was:

Sleek Solstice Highlighting Palette Β£10.00 (Link here!).

This is my favourite of the moment, not only is it significantly cheaper than the Mineralize Skin Finish, you get four different shades! There are three powders and one cream highlight, so surely it’s all you could need? My favourite is the peachy shade in the bottom right of the palette. It has quite a high shine and I love the way it looks on!

Again it was difficult to get the highlight to show up in pictures but this was my best attempt. All of the shades in the palette has a similar level of shine. The cream was obviously more dewy and natural looking so would be great for a hot day.

I swatched each other shades on my hand, the far left is the MAC and the rest are from the Sleek palette.

I also own Nars Albatross, however, for me personally it comes up a little yellow on my skin (probably because I’m so pale). So it’s not one of my favourites. All three are great products though and at the end of the day it comes down to personal preference. MAC has more of a natural shimmer, Sleek a little more intense and glitz.

I hope you enjoyed this, it was just a quick one because I’m not the best at beauty posts but I thought I may as well try as I do love makeup! Please comment below telling me about your favourite makeup products and highlighters πŸ™‚

Until next time,
